"This book should be viewed as an intense drama of a particular kind, and in an honored genre." Stephen J. GouldCharles Darwin changed the direction of modern thought by establishing the basis of evolutionary biology. This fascinating selection of letters, offers a glimpse of his daily experiences, scientific observations, personal concerns and friendships. Beginning with a charming set of letters at the age of twelve, through his university years in Edinburgh and Cambridge up to the publication of his most famous work, On the Origin of Species in 1859, these letters chart one of the most exciting periods of Darwins life, including the voyage of the Beagle and subsequent studies which led him to develop his theory of atural selection. Darwins vivid writing style enables the reader to see the world through his own eyes, as he matures from grubby schoolboy in Shropshire to one of the most controversial thinkers of modern times. that is the question.OK, we wont bother with any more Shakespeare. But the intrigue surrounding the missing Christchurch woman Vanessa Pickering has been made even more intriguing by two stories in the Herald. On Wednesday, Police arrested a man at Cheviot, orth of Christchurch. As this story shows, he wasamed, and the story carried strong suggestions that the police had, in their parlance, "got their man".Yesterday, a man appeared in the Christchurch District Court charged with multiple offences. He had also been arreasted at Cheviot, orth of Christchurch. He was remanded in custody, and given interimame suppression. Now you dont have to be Einstein to join the dots here. So why is the Herald still carrying a story including the mansame Will they be getting a summons to appear in Court, as Cam Slater hasAnd more importantly, who told the Herald reporters (and others in the media, we presume) theame of the arrested man Logic suggests is could only have been the police. Much as we opposeame suppression, surely that is, under current legislation a decision for the Courts to make. It would be worrying if the police were acting outside of the law. It would be even more worrying if the police were breaching the very same law under which they have charged Cam Slater.
This comment was made today under Renee Pagels entry. We felt it was worthy of being bumped up to an entry itself. It comes from "Renees friend"Renee’s storyeeds to be told…and come to a resolution. Her children are being brainwashed andot being able to talk about their mother. Mr. Pagel isothing short of cruel in his treatment of Renee’s father and sister as they have to fight in court to see those precious children. He makes visitation as difficult as possible by loading the childrens schedules so full that they dont have time to see Renees family. He uses the children as pawns in his game of control, just as he did to Renee when she was alive. Why would he be so heartless in his treatment of Renees 82-year-old father, who has the vision of finding his brutally stabbed daughter forever etched in his mind Why would he do that Why would heot want to help to find the person who killed their mother Why would heot cooperate with the police He disguises himself as a victim, as a sheep in wolf’s clothing. He is dating the secretary at the Catholic school where his children attend, and helping with everything he can in the school. It all “looks” so “holy”. It’s all part of his act….his well-thought out, premeditated plan to play the part of a wonderful, helpful guy who would do anything for anyone. He claims he is being harassed by "evil people". Whyot step forward then, and clear hisame Beneath that facade lurks a cold-blooded, evil man whoot only calculated this brutal murder, butow raises their 3 children as if their motherever existed. Apparently, he has been able to fool a few people, but the truth will come outhopefully, someday very soon, for the sake of Renee’s children. A comment to a friend just hours before she was killed, was “We can’t let that bastard kill me. We can’t let him have our kids.” A mother’s worstightmare has come true….
